Spray Tans & Sun Protection

We all love that bronzed glow from a spray tan, but we can't forget that our skin still needs sun protection!
A spray tan of any type DOES NOT provide you with sun protection!
That being said, you want to choose the right sunscreen to prolong the life of your gorgeous Soleil Sunless Tan and protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB sunrays.
There are two rules to follow! Purchase an oil free sunscreen and use a cream or lotion, not an aerosol can!
Oily sunscreens attach to the tanning solution and cause it to wash off.
The aerosol sunscreens have horrible skin coverage AND contain more alcohol in them. The alcohol dries out your skin causing it to dry out. Dry skin exfoliates off which means your tan will rub off sooner as well!
Remember to apply your sunscreen correctly too! According to the American Association of Dermatology, you must apply sunscreen correctly in order for it to work! Here are some tips...
Choose a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher, is water resistant, and provides broad-spectrum coverage, which means it protects you from UVA and UVB rays.
Apply sunscreen generously before going outdoors. It takes approximately 15 minutes for your skin to absorb the sunscreen and protect it.
Apply enough sunscreen to cover all exposed skin. Most adults need about 1 ounce — or enough to fill a shot glass — to fully cover their body. Rub the sunscreen thoroughly into your skin.
Apply sunscreen to all bare skin. Remember your neck, face, ears, tops of your feet and legs.
For hard‐to‐reach areas like your back, ask someone to help you or use a spray sunscreen. If you have thinning hair, either apply sunscreen to your scalp or wear a wide‐brimmed hat.
To protect your lips, apply a lip balm with a SPF of at least 15.
To remain protected when outdoors, reapply sunscreen every two hours, or immediately after swimming or sweating. People who get sunburned usually didn't use enough sunscreen, didn't reapply it after being in the sun, or used an expired product.
Remember to always wear sun protection whether you have a spray tan or not!
